Plan de clase semanal (subject to change)

Día 1

• Blog: Vamos a continuar compartiendo nuestra investigación. ¡Debes incluir la entrada de la semana pasada y la de esta semana! Remember: as you investigate, narrow your focus. The first posts can be broad, but as you move into your investigation, you might want to focus on more concrete aspects. I will be projecting a few post entries, please be ready! You don't want me to project an empty blog!!!!
• Película: Vamos a terminar de ver la película que empezamos durante en la semana de finales. 

Día 2

• Nuevo semestre: 
• Lectura: Vamos a continuar compartiendo nuestra lectura. When you do the reading summaries, you will need to list from what page to what page you read. Make sure you also include examples of verbs or sentences you don't understand in your reading in the second paragraph. 
• Práctica de lectura: Vamos a leer un poema del poeta José Martí.
• Vámonos de viaje a Cuba: Estábamos planeando un viaje a Cuba. Vamos a escribir listas de lo que necesitamos llevar, y vamos a investigar 
• Guantanamera, Guajira Guantanamera: Esta canción cubana es muy famosa en el mundo latino. Esta versión es de una cantante super famosa, Celia Cruz. 

Día 3

• Taller de lectura y escritura: Vamos a practicar nuestra lectura y nuestra escritura un poco en esta sesión. Vamos a mirar cómo usar el diccionario y otros recursos en Internet. 
• Trae tu libro para el taller de lectura.

Presentaciones para la semana 2 y 3 (depending on progress)
Cada equipo va a crear un poster/un cartel, un folleto y una presentación en google slides para enseñar en clase enseñando lo siguiente:

• Las fechas del viaje y el tiempo que hace en Cuba esa época del año.
• El dinero que vais a llevar y el equivalente en dinero cubano.
• Lo que os vais a llevar (ropa, aparatos electrónicos, dinero en efectivo, etc)
• Los medios de transporte que planeáis usar de un punto a otro (km en google maps y tiempo de recorrido)
• Las actividades que vais a hacer cada día de vuestro viaje.
• La comida que vais a probar en Cuba.
• Los museos y sitios de interés que vais a visitar, con los enlaces de internet de esos sitios si están disponibles. 
• El apartamento o casa en Arbnb en el que os vais a quedar y las características del mismo.

Durante la segunda vamos a tener una reunión de amigos en clase, en la que cada grupo intentará convencer a sus amigos de que su plan de viaje es el mejor. A parte de presentar, cada grupo tiene que crear una serie de preguntas para los otros grupos, y argumentos para convencer a los demás de que tu viaje es el mejor. 

El plan: cada grupo presenta a la clase su propuesta de viaje usando:

• google slides - presentación general con toda la información.
• cartel - con imágenes para la discusión en grupo.
• folletos - con la información resumida. 

Segundo semestre de español 9-10/PSU Challenge

A new semester has just started, and we are moving into a point system that we'll be rolling in starting next week. Although our class has been great at participating, there has been some challenges. So here are a few important points for you to know:

Point system - 100 points per quarter to be earned in participation + 20 extra points

This means you it's up to you to earn them in class by: listening and speaking Spanish in class. 

If you have an excused absence, that is, one that has been reported in the main office, the extra 20 points will help you make up any lost points for not being in class.

Addendum to Skipping class or unexcused absences

Period 4 & 5 students, coming to class is beneficial to your learning. Please, make sure you report your excused absences to the main office. If for some reason, you need to miss class you wont benefit from the points you can earn during that session. Always makes sure you come to flex if you need to catch up or make up some for some work. (P5 students, I spoke with my department, and I have decided to change the language a little bit. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused)

Late work policy

Late work is not accepted unless you have an excused absence. It is your responsibility to complete work on time. Make up work when ill can be completed during flex, so make sure you come.

Investigación y lecturas - 20%

So, how many blog entries should I have, and how many reading summaries should I have so far:

• Blog entries: you should have 3 entries so far to cover January. One entry to explain what your blog is about, and 2 entries investigating your topic. What if you don't have them? You can come during flex to make those up.
• Reading summaries: you should have 3 entries so far to cover January. What if you don't have them? You can come during flex to make those up.

These entries were not included in the first semester because of the weather, and I will make an special entry in synergy to count them in. If you are missing an entry or a summary, please, make sure you come during flex to make up the work. If you made more than 3, talk to me so you get some extra recognition. 

Since this is the start of the semester, we will be starting from 1, which means, this week you need one blog entry, and one reading summary.
